木工作業をしていると木屑が必ず出る。一般的に材料費の計算をする際は、３０〜７０％の損耗率を加算して計上すると言われている。全てが木屑になる訳ではないが、それでも一つの木工品を作るだけでかなりの量の木屑が出る。それらの木屑は樹種によって色も違えば、加工する際に使用する道具や機械によっても形や大きさが変わってくる。このwood layerは本来ならゴミとして廃棄されるだけの木屑に新たな素材としての価値を見出し、資源の有効活用を図る試みである。木屑そのものの表情や質感、形状を活かすことで、今までに表現されてこなかった新たな木の魅力を引き出している。
